Project DerelictWell, now is my time to enter and explain the siegelet, Derelict. I thank Bloodstone for contacting everyone here, for he knows of places that I do not.
I'd like to say hello to everyone here and to the Killer Raven Warriors and Havoc Knights. It's an honor to be here. I am Lone Knight, the creator of the siegelet Derelict, which I expect to be the largest-scaled siegelet ever made for Dungeon Siege.
I'll explain some major parts of it, and see if anyone is interested in helping us reach our goal and finishing it this year.
Derelict Poster I
Project Derelict was started over three years ago. While we were all waiting for Dungeon Siege II to roll out, I started to write a story for a siegelet that would eventually become Derelict. Derelict is a siegelet for Dungeon Siege 1. We have converted a load of content from Legends of Aranna to be compatible with Dungeon Siege 1.11. We have done this so that people with both Dungeon Siege 1.11 or Legends of Aranna can play this, reaching a bigger audience. Why didn't we make this with Dungeon Siege 2? It never had as large an audience, it was never as successful, it's a lot harder to mod, nobody on the team was familiar modding it, and we know the Dungeon Siege 1 engine much more intimately.
Today, in late October of 2007, we have made a lot of progress. The finished storyline for Derelict is over 100 pages long, giving a sprawling and quite amazing story. A 30 page history that dates back hundreds of years before the game starts was created. We've created an entire world from head to toe in every manner.
Monster Concept
Derelict takes place in a land that is far from the lands of Ehb and the Plain of Tears. Four large nations have begun a chaotic war with one another. Amidst different conflicts with these countries' religions, races, and politics, and mortal wars, a vile evil slumbers, one that had been abandoned untold years ago. Twists, betrayal, and violence start from the beginning and are going strong until the end.
We are bringing about a new meaning of NPC's and team members for Dungeon Siege, as the characters you have on your party speak and interact with you. Unlike Dungeon Siege 2 where team members will have a small quest for themselves, or talk occasionally, different characters change the outcome of the game.
Countryside
There are a massive amount of quests to be done, both minor and important. The map were are designing is larger than any map that was made for Dungeon Siege 1, even larger than the Utraean Peninsula map. We are striding to make these lands seem massive, realistic, and interesting. This game works for those who like to follow the main quest, or those who like to explore everything. The size and uniqueness of every region will make this a great battleground for multiplayer as well.
Fire Beam Spell Test
We have a team of spell creators, who have meticulously created over 150 new spells, including spells that bomb the surrounding ground with balls of fire, a vast fog that surrounds and strangles groups of enemies, summoning powerful melee or ranged weapons to use and improve your chances in combat, and summons for new and powerful monsters. By the time the game is going to be finished, we expect over 100 more spells, leveling off at over 300 brand new spells and summons.
There is a group of music composers, the pride and joy of our team. While the soundtrack for Dungeon Siege was certainly amazing, no epic tale is unique without its own epic soundtrack. Composers Justin Durban, Adam Cooper, Eli Gunn, and Paul Wilkie worked for over two years creating a soundtrack of exactly 60 songs that will be featured in Derelict.
I will be sure to include some music samples as soon as I can figure out how to upload them.
We cannot forget the modellers. One of the hardest fields, but perhaps one of the most important for bringing new things to the game, Michael "Mcarp" Carpenter and Uriah George created hundreds of new nodes, monsters, weapons, and objects to interact with in the game.

This leads me to one of our most proud points of Derelict : cities. Never before have large scale cities been created in Dungeon Siege. Why? Because the engine cannot handle it. However, after careful work, through a number of tricks and careful testing, we've created large, sprawling cities, taking up sometimes 4 full regions in size, where the player can enter any building and traverse any street, and interact with NPC's (or hostiles) who are just as mobile as you are.
Working in collaboration with Project Britannia, the team that created the new AI scheduling system for Derelict, we can now have NPC's have scheduled events such as sweeping the floor for five minutes, then sleeping, or then taking a walk to the butcher's that run on loops, making towns that once were dead in Dungeon Siege become busy and alive. Also credited to Project Britannia, we now have working ships that can transport players across the ocean, to whole new lands.
And finally, the voices. Thanks to my good fortunes in dating the daughter of a man who happened to own a recording studio, we are privileged to have our own top-notched voices for the game. No NPC's will be silent, as over 30 individuals voice the various characters that you will encounter in the game. Some voices are also undergoing changing to make them sound evil, creepy, or however we want to change them. At this point, nearly all of the lines for Derelict have been recorded.
Frost Dragon Summon
This is loosely connected to the Dungeon Siege world. I'm currently writing a complete history of the Dungeon Siege world, which is a compilation of history information that I took strict notes on from Dungeon Siege 1, LoA, Yesterhaven, Utraean Peninsula, LoA XP Pack, Dungeon Siege 2, Broken World, and Throne of Agony.
Other small improvements will be mounted enemies, mounted allies, (work in progress on mounted hero, but nothing major, yet) scabbards and quivers that have been added to your armor, giving them a cooler and more realistic look (I always wondered where those arrows came from...) issuing commands to NPC's in battle, hundreds of new armor and weapons, long rage bows, and shrinking and enlarging your player size just to name a few.
We're also creating an intro cinematic for Derelict, which looks amazing and has been worked on for over a year.
So, to wrap things up, this is expected to be quite a release. Do not think that we will not release this. I was one of the people who over the years saw other supposed 'great' siegelets that were 'definately going to release' fall apart over night. I've been working on this siegelet for over three years, and I will not just give up on it, especially when it is so close.
That leads me to this. I won't stop until I finish it, but at the moment, that process could go faster. The music is done, the spells are under control, the models are done. What isn't done? The mapping. We need any and every mapper, even if you aren't a professional Dungeon Siege master. Any bit helps. The scale of this game needs us to make a large map for players to enjoy. That's no simple task. Right now, there's three active mappers on the team. We used to have more, but they jump on and off of the projects.
The bonuses to aiding us are many. Firstly, you are part of a team of modders who are dedicated to making sure that modders are heard, and to send a message that shows what we are capable of. You will receive credit for working with us, and being a part of such a major undertaking is something to be proud of.
PC Gamer plans to do a story on us (being the Derelict team and Derelict itself) after we release this baby. That's always something nice to show your friends or fiancé.
After Derelict is completed, I am having special made CD's for the game, along with a unique CD cover and CD case for the game, as well as the same for the game's soundtrack. Free copies of both will be mailed to all team members if they wish. That's definately something to geek out over.
Finally, who knows what will come out of Derelict? Perhaps it will get big? Maybe GPG or Microsoft will purchase it and release it as a standalone expansion pack for Dungeon Siege 1. Maybe? Probably not, but there's no telling what will come out of it.
If anyone managed to read all of that, and is interested in joining the Derelict Team, or just general inquiry, please feel free to post or to email me at loneknight@sbcglobal.net. I am always quick and happy to respond to emails.
Thank you, guys. I really appreciate the support shown by you all.

Ok Lone Knight thanks for stopping by and ALL of your work not just in this post but what looks to be a most promising sieglet. This is some really good work.
I would have to stick with Mr GigGles and The Revelations to help you with this as they are probably the best fit. ResOrt and Decra have some mapping experience as well and may want to jump in. TIme is a constraint with school and all but if you guys are interested please email Lone and let him know so he can get you going.
It would be an honor for anybody to work on this project! Thanks again.
