what i got from link on first page

Hi Borgstew,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Support.

My name is Maria and I will be helping you with Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna.

As I understand, you are unable to play Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna online as zonemaster does not work. If I have misunderstood the issue, please let me know.

Borgstew, this issue may occur due to the following reasons:

1. If the background applications are interfering with the game.

2. If the external firewall software is conflicting with the game.

3. If the ports are not open.

4. If the Firewall in the Router conflicting with the game.

Let us try the following troubleshooting steps. To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order that they appear in. Please do not skip steps below.

Tony, these steps are rather lengthy. You may want to print them out before you start.

Step 1: Clean boot Windows XP

When you start Microsoft Windows with a normal startup, several programs start automatically and run in the background. These programs may include third-party antivirus programs and system utility programs. When you try to run the game, these programs may interfere with the game. If this occurs, you can use a clean boot to start your computer before you play a game. This prevents these background programs from starting automatically.

NOTE: You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

1.  Click on Start, and then click Run.

2.  In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.

3.  On the General tab, click Selective Startup.

4.  Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes:

     - Process SYSTEM.INI File

     - Process WIN.INI File

     - Load Startup Items

5.  On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.

6.  On the Startup Tab, click the option "Disable All"

7.  Click on Apply, then click on Close, and then click on Restart

Disable any antivirus or system security software (Norton, McAfee). Also, if you have any third-party software installed for video performance or refresh rate optimization, please disable that software.

Step 2: Disabling Firewall in Windows XP

1. Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.

2. On the General tab, click Off (not recommended), and then click OK.

If the issue persists, try next step.

Step 3: Bypass the Router

Please connect the computers directly with the networking cable or internet cable bypassing the Router.

If the issue persists, try next step.

Step 4: Open Ports

To verify that these ports are open or to open these ports, please contact your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

If you are the administrator of the network, please consult the documentation provided with your networking software to determine the steps to open these ports.

Dungeon Siege requires that the following UDP and TCP ports be open to start multiplayer games:

Connection to ZoneMatch: 2300 UDP

News and AutoUpdate: 80 TCP

When a multiplayer game is in session, Dungeon Siege uses the following DirectPlay ports:

Connection Ports for Client Configuration Ports for Host Configuration

Initial UDP Connection 6073 Outbound for Joining 6073 Inbound for Hosting

Subsequent UDP Inbound 2302-2400 2302-2400

Subsequent UDP Outbound 2302-2400 2302-2400

Step 5: Return to Normal Mode

1. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. On the General tab, click Normal Startup, click Ok and then restart the computer.

If the issue persists after trying the steps listed above, kindly reply to us with the system information using the following steps.
